More On BROOKS Technology On Green Silence

CMP Midsole

Brooks’ eco-friendlier Compression Molded Preform (CMP) midsole manufacturing process reduces waste by 50 percent as compared to traditional midsole manufacturing methods. Typically, running shoe midsoles are punched out of large sheets—much like using a cookie cutter—leaving unusable excess material. This is what's shown in the left photo.

Brooks’ midsoles (green example, right image) are created using an efficient Compression Molded Preform (CMP) midsole process. It eliminates waste, saves steps and time, reducing labor and energy outputs. That means it’s better for the earth, better for your conscience.

BioMoGo
Ready for the most exciting environmental innovation to ever hit the sports industry? Well, hang on tight! Building off the momentum gained by our 2006 Runner’s World International “Best Innovation” Award for our environmentally sustainable development projects, Brooks has introduced the first-ever biodegradable running shoe midsole: BioMoGo. Yes, we’ve taken the long-lasting cushioning of our original MoGo midsole and made it more environmentally friendly.
How, you ask? We’ve added a non-toxic, natural additive to the MoGo compound that encourages anaerobic microbes to munch away once it hits an active enclosed landfill. Traditional Ethylene Vinyl Acetate™ (EVA) midsoles can last up to 1,000 years in a landfill. BioMoGo’s microbial munch rate is 50 times faster, biodegrading nutrients into reusable byproducts. Over the course of, say, 20 to 25 years or so, Brooks alone can save 29.9 million pounds of landfill waste. For you pigskin fans out there, that equals 1,277 football fields covered one shoe deep!
BioMoGo made its debut in the Trance™ 8 in July 2008, and is now available in most of our mMen's and Women's performance running shoes.
And because we believe in being agents of positive change, we’ll release this technology to all other footwear brands. And so on we move—all of us—to greener pastures.
